Network Marketing Tips: Enhance Your Downline Productivity By Tapping Into Their Top 3 Motivators

Network marketing is a team sport, and it works best when the upline (leader) knows their team members. It makes things easier if the things that motivate team members are precisely known.
And this is one of the areas where many network marketers overlook the obvious. The success of any network marketer heavily relies on their ability to bring together a team of volunteers, help them adopt a long-term commitment to one another, so that even when the going gets tough, everyone holds on to the vision they have seen.
Now, in this kind of relationship, it is important to know what is it exactly that makes these individuals stay on. We sometimes want to believe that money or financial rewards are a driving force. Well, yes and no.
Financial rewards may become a 'hygiene factor'. Yes, people join a network marketing business because they see it as a vehicle which gives them better leverage when it comes to achieving their dreams, whatever they may be.
Hygiene factors are those factors which, depending on the context, may cause 'dissatisfaction'. In the context of a network marketing business, when the financial reward isn't coming forth as anticipated, a mighty 'dissatisfaction' looms on the horizon. It goes without saying that financial rewards are not the only possible hygiene factors. Recognition, challenges, relationships with other team members, achievements, personal development - all these and many others can be 'hygiene factors'.
If you look at them, these are all great motivators to have in a network marketing team, but issues (areas of dissatisfaction) with them turn them into hygiene factors.
A smart upline would do well to know how to identify the 'hygiene factors', and to accurately identify the top three motivators of the core members of his team. Why is it necessary to identify these top motivators?
Unless an upline can identify and measure the motivators driving each of their team members, they cannot maximize it and use it to the advantage of the whole team. Motivation that isn't measured is merely hype, no matter how loud the team leader or upline can scream about it. Point is, you cannot effectively manipulate or manage the thing that you cannot measure.
Before we touch a bit on the question of measuring 'motivation', let's quickly mention that where the upline is not equipped to identify the top motivators of each of his core team members, that upline may not be aware of intra-personal and inter-personal conflict that may be retarding the growth and effectiveness of their team. One doesn't need a degree in quantum physics to understand any amount of conflict is a serious obstacles to growth. Especially among volunteers.
Measuring motivation starts with being able to identify 'motivators' that drive each one of us. A simple way of looking at this is by asking the question: what drives an individual? Is it achievement? Is it growth? Or is it relationships?
Each of these (achievement, growth, relationships) can be considered as a cluster within which a group of core motivators exist. As an example, someone whose core motivator is 'expert' is more geared towards achievement. This person, amongst others would look for opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, expertise and prowess.
And, someone whose core motivator is 'star' is more geared towards relationships. This is the type of individual who values recognition by peers above a lot of things, and when they receive this recognition they feel like they can fly.
A total of nine motivators is found within the three motivational clusters we have identified above.
Quite a lot of information, but how does this benefit an upline in a network marketing business?
The bottom line is: when an upline can identify the top three motivators that drive his or her core team members, they are then able to effectively build a proficient and well-balanced downline team that can work together to achieve the most desired results.
